The state song is "Washington, My Home" by Helen Davis. In 1985 the Washington State Legislature Senate approved a bill to make "Louie, Louie," written by Richard Berry, to be the new official state song. However, the bill failed in the House so it didn't happen. The song had been recorded by several artists in the Pacific Northwest and was a national hit by The Kingsmen. In the 1990s the Seattle music scene had produced several artists with multi-million selling albums. The most successfun Seattle bands of that era included Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.
