Songs About Pennsylvania, The Keystone State

The state song is "Pennsylvania" by Eddie Khoury and Ronnie Bonner. Officially a Commonwealth, Pennsylvania played a big part in the formation of the United States. Founding Fathers met in Philadelphia for the First Continental Congress and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The region was populated by several Native American tribes including Delaware, Susquehannock, Iroqois and Shawnee before English and Dutch settlers arrived. William Penn was given a grant by the King of England to establish a colony called Pennsylvania in the 17th century. It became one of the original 13 states following the American Revolution. The state became a major producer of steel and oil during the industrial revolution. Other themes surrounding Pennsylvania include timber, locomotive manufacturing, major league sports, hunting and Lake Erie.
