The state song is "Michigan My Michigan" by William Otto Miessner & Douglas M. Malloch. The most popular songs originating from the state have been recordings issued on Motown Records. One of the giants of the industrial revolution, Michigan is most widely known for its auto manufacturing in Detroit as well as its R&B superstars. The state borders four of the five Great Lakes: Michigan, Superior, Huron and Erie. Michigan was named by the French after an Ojibwe word for large lake.
