The state song is "Georgia On My Mind" written by Stuart Gorrell and Hoagy Carmichael. It was a national hit several times: Frankie Trumbauer (1931), Mildred Bailey (1932), Gene Krupa (1941), Ray Charles (1960) and Michael Bolton (1990). Some of the state themes that may pop up in Georgia songs of the future include Atlanta, Athens, Blackbeard Island, St. Mary's College, chickens, early steam ships and the annual Masters Golf tournament in Augusta. The state was named after King George II of England. Atlanta has been the home of many national rhythm & blues artists.
