by Alex Cosper (7/21/13) The top two artists with the most number one songs in U.S. history on the Billboard Hot 100 chart are the Beatles with 20 and Elvis Presley with 18. The Beatles tied Presley's record in 1969 when their single "Come Together/Something" was listed as a double-sided single at number one, the week Billboard changed its methodology, which previously listed double-sided hit singles as separate tracks. So in a sense, the Beatles really ended up with 21 number one hit songs, if you count songs separately. But if that's the case, both The Beatles and Elvis Presley had several other number one songs if you count popular b-sides such as "I Saw Her Standing There," which was the b-side to The Beatles' first chart topper "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Presley's "Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog" was counted as a double-sided hit in 1956.
