Prior to KMET signing on in June 1968 on 94.7 FM, the frequency was held by KLAC FM from 1961-1968. KMET was known as "The Mighty Met" and had strong ratings until the early eighties. Owned by Metromedia, the station changed format to become the nation's first "New Adult Contemporary" station KTWV, "The Wave," on February 14, 1987.
