Full-Length CDs

The popularity of full-length CDs steadily diminished throughout the 2000s, according to data from Peter Hart Research and Taylor Research & Consulting Group, as reported on in the RIAA's 2008 Consumer Profile. The configuration was introduced in the early 1980s and experienced its biggest popularity from the early to late nineties. The decline of the CD has been at the expense of the rising digital download. CDs held stead near 90% market share through 2005. Then the next four years saw declines that pushed market share down to 77.8 by 2008. Meanwhile, digital downloads made a significant jump in 2006 from .9 to 5.7 market share.
