Music the Week the Color TV Era Began by Alex Cosper (12/26/12) Color television had been around since 1953 but was used sparingly until it was found to be competitive in the early sixties. Beginning in the Fall season of 1965, half of all network shows were made in color. By the end of the decade color would be the standard for each of the networks. The shift from black and white to color television was a dramatic time marker that defined modern television.
