Music the Week The Beatles Broke Up
by Alex Cosper (12/27/12)

The Beatles announced their break-up at a press conference on April 10, 1970. The band did not officially break up until five years later, although they discontinued recording as a group and began releasing their own solo material. The Beatles had the Billboard Hot 100 number one single at the time, "Let It Be." Their last recording had been the Abbey Road album in 1969. Let It Be was recorded earlier in 1969 and had been shelved until 1970.
