1773 - John Stafford Smith writes "To Anacreon In Heaven" (the future melodic basis of "Star-Spangled Banner")
1789 - Phillip Phile composes "The President's March" for George Washington's inauguration
1798 - Joseph Hopkinson adds lyrics to "The President's March" and changes the title to "Hail, Columbia"
1812 - James Sanderson writes music to "Hail To The Chief"
1814 - Francis Scott Key writes the lyrics to "The Star-Spangled Banner"
1829 - President Andrew Jackson's inauguration is the first to feature "Hail To The Chief"
1831 - Samuel Francis Smith writes lyrics to "My Country 'Tis of Thee," set to music of "God Save The Queen"
