2000s Music Industry Statistics
Classic catalogue music, also categorized as oldies, stayed near 1% market share throughout most of the 2000s, according to data from Peter Hart Research and Taylor Research & Consulting Group, as reported on RIAA.com in the RIAA's 2008 Consumer Profile. The two biggest years of the decade for the genre were 2003 and 2004 with 1.3 and 1.4 shares respectively. After a big drop in 2007 from 1.1 to .4, the format moved back up to .7 in 2008.
