The 2018 World Cup will be held in Russia and then Qatar will host the event in 2022. While most of the world refers to this event as a football tournament, Americans often refer to it as a soccer championship so that it isn't confused with American football or the Super Bowl. The first glabal tournament was held in Glasgow in 1872. FIFA, also known as the International Federation of Association Football, was launched in 1904 and ten years later began participating in Olympic football tournaments. In 1930 FIFA kicked off the event now known as the World Cup.
