Radio Industry Report 2010 by Alex
Cosper (1/27/10)
The radio industry has remained questionable throughout 2009 and early 2010. While some radio industry
reports have projected increased advertising, the evidence continues to build that radio is in trouble.
In January Clear Channel San Diego laid off several familiar radio celebrities. Citadel filed for bankruptcy
near the end of 2009, as did Air America in January. A trend toward internet advertising has hurt radio
advertising in recent years. In 2009 Billboard terminated the publication Radio & Records, which had
been a very well-respected radio industry resource for years. Arbitron debuted its "people meter" leading
to a new electronic methodology for tracking audience measurement.
Radio Industry Report 2009 by Alex

The state of the radio industry is that profits have fallen as advertisers are moving online.
Radio can only save itself if it finds the right leaders who have imaginative strength and knowledge of mass media. If radio
continues its path of formats that bypass creativity, internet radio will just take over much quicker. These days radio is still
more popular than internet radio but radio has fallen throughout the decade in earnings. People don't need radio anymore.
Now there are thousands of new songs and content to choose from online.
